BE AWARE | DEER RUTTING SEASON |
||
|
#RoadSafety | The deer rutting season is well underway, which means deer are far more active and unpredictable, particularly at dawn and dusk. This means that drivers may encounter deer suddenly running into the carriageway, often with little warning.
If you're driving in areas such as Cannock Chase and other rural locations:
🦌 Slow down and stay alert, especially in wooded areas 🦌 Watch for deer warning signs 🦌 Remember deer often travel in groups, if you see one, others may follow 🦌 Use your headlights appropriately and stay focused on the road ahead
If you hit a deer:
⚠️ Stop when it is safe to do so ⚠️ Turn on your hazard lights ⚠️ Check yourself and any passengers for injuries ⚠️ Do not approach or attempt to move an injured deer, as frightened animals can cause injury ⚠️ Call 999 if the deer is injured, blocking the road, or presents a danger to other road users
By taking a little extra care, we can all help keep ourselves, other road users, and wildlife safe during this busy period.
